Driving Question: How can we, as CSA First Graders, recycle crayons and help children who are in the hospital?
Project Partner: The Crayon Initiative OrganizationPlan of Action: We collected used crayons the whole school year that we counted, weighed, and sorted. We sent the crayons to The Crayon Initiative to be recycled.Culminating Event: We took the crayons to the Post Office and mailed them to California!Fireman's Cheer Fund/Love Chapel ProjectDriving Question: How can we, as CSA First Graders, make the holiday season happier for people in our community?Community Partners: Love Chapel and Columbus FirefightersPlan of Action: We collected, counted, sorted, and cleaned new and gently used toys for the Cheer Fund. We made ornaments and cards for the clients at Love Chapel.Culminating Event: We delivered our toys and packed boxes for the Cheer Fund. We volunteered at Love Chapel to pack food, organize bags, and wrap silverware.American Holiday Symbols and Traditions ProjectDriving Question: How can we, as CSA First Graders, teach preschool children about American holiday symbols and traditions?Community Partners: First Christian Church Preschool and First Presbyterian PreschoolPlan of Action: We researched American holiday symbols and traditions. We made google slide shows and presented them to our families.Culminating Event: We made wagon floats for each holiday and took them to the preschools to present what we learned.Cummins Community Garden ProjectDriving Question: How can we, as CSA First Graders, grow healthy food for people in our community?Community Partner: Cummins Community Garden GroupPlan of Action: We researched plants and their life cycle. We planted seeds and took care of them.Culminating Event: We took the plants to the Community Garden and planted them. We will pick the vegetables in the fall.
