Energy Matters
BCSC received a service-learning grant from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board in February 2010.
BCSC Elementary students identified Environmental Responsibility as a focus area that needs to be addressed. Focus groups were conducted and led by students at each elementary school last year. Three areas of need were identified: recycling of water bottles, recycling and exchange of incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent light bulbs, and conserving electricity by turning off the lights.
A Student Advisory Board was formed (SAB) with representatives from each of the elementary and middle schools, and St. Bartholomew. Each school has a faculty adviser and a "green team" that will be facilitating work done in the schools. The SAB meets monthly; the advisers meet quarterly.
