On the afternoons of Tuesday, May 19, and Wednesday, May 20, 2020, the graduating seniors will make their senior project presentations to review boards.  All students at Columbus East High School will participate in the Senior Project Field Trip the afternoons of May 19 & 20. Lunch will be served both days from 11:30 AM – 12:15 PM for everyone. Buses will transport students at 12:15 PM. There will not be bus transportation at 3:15 PM.  Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen are required to either observe senior project presentations in the afternoon so they may see first hand what is required for graduation, or they may go off campus and do research on a potential senior project.  Every student will submit a written paper about the two days to his/her English teacher.  Transportation will not be provided if a student elects to participate in an off campus senior project activity.

The senior project presentations will take place from 12:30 – 3 PM at Columbus East High School. The review boards consist of five members: two Columbus East High School faculty members and three community members.  The community members include representatives from local businesses and industries, parents, East High School alumni, local and state government officials, post-secondary institutions, youth serving organizations, the ecumenical community, and the BCSC School Board.

The presentations are the final stage of senior projects.  Students present to the review boards what they learned, the process they went through to complete their projects, and the challenges they faced throughout the projects.  The presentations will last approximately ten minutes, followed by five minutes of questions from the review board members. Senior projects measure content, context, higher order thinking, multi-disciplinary learning, creativity, ingenuity, resourcefulness, problem-solving, and many other skills valued by higher educational institutions and the business and industry world.

All senior project presentations are open to the public as Columbus East High School seniors will demonstrate not only what they know, but also what they can do and how they challenged themselves to grow.
