Safe Walking/Biking Routes to School Program
What is the Safe Walking/Biking Routes To School Program? The Safe Walking/Biking Routes to School Program empowers communities to make walking and bicycling to schools safe and routine for school children.
Walking and bicycling to school was once a part of everyday life. In 1969, about half of all students walked or bicycled to school. Today, fewer than15-percent of all school trips are made by walking or bicycling, while more than half of all children arrive at school by car.Parents often say traffic danger, distance and lack of sidewalks and paths are the reasons why their children don’t bike or walk to school. This program is designed to assist in easing those fears.
WE NEED YOUR HELPParents and Community members who volunteer to be a part of this program will assist in making your community safer for children to walk and bike to and from school.
The Walk/Biking Bus
¨ Persons will walk with Students to ensure they are safer during the time children need to get to and from school.

¨ Persons will stand outside or in a window so an adult can be seen during the times school children are out.
