Professor of biomedical engineering and medicine at the University of Virginia Received bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from The Johns Hopkins University Received Doctor of Philosophy degree in bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego Received Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California, San Diego Completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Freiburg, Germany Completed a fellowship in developmental biology and anatomy at the University of South Carolina Holds academic appointments at the: -University of Freiburg, Germany -University of South Carolina -Columbia University -University of Virginia   In 2012, named an American Heart Association fellow, recognizing  scientific and professional accomplishments and volunteer leadership and service to cardiovascular disease and stroke
