I am the resource teacher for the Maverick team.  What does a resource teacher do? 

 

My primary responsibility is to help and provide support to students with IEPs (Individualized Education Plans). To do this, I consult with the other team teachers concerning instructional strategies and methods.  I also assist in modifying assignments and assessments to meet the various needs of students.

 

Another role of mine is as a co-teacher in some of the English and math classes.  I work with Mrs. Kennedy during periods one and two, and with Mrs. Helton periods three and four.  During these classes I monitor the activities of all students, helping out where ever needed.  I also actively participate in the instruction of these classes, both in the planning and delivery of lessons.

 

Working closely with me is Mrs. Jordan, a teaching assistant.  She goes into Mrs. Hall's periods one and two science classes, and Mr. Ferrara's periods three and four social studies classes.  While her primary responsibility is to help the students with IEPs, she assists other students on a regular basis.  Mrs. Jordan also supervises and assists students during a resource period.  The purpose of this class is to provide students with IEPs an opportunity to receive additional instruction and additional time and assistance on individual goals, classwork and assignments.
