KEYSTONE
(Freshman Year)The ninth grade is very important to the overall success of a high school student. It is a time of transition, maturation, social and emotional growth, increase in high order thinking capabilities, and heightened exploration of career interest. It is important for ninth grade students to assimilate into school culture and become engaged in the academics as quickly as possible. The object of the Keystone is to begin guiding students through four years of high school. Keystone is a required semester course offered to all students regardless of their ability level. It focuses on orientation to high school, time management, study skills, goal setting, building basic technology skills necessary for success in high school, career interest inventory, and introduction to career clusters.Students will develop academic plans with assistance from their guidance conselors. The academic plans will be designed around information learned from interest inventories and career exploration activities administered during the Keystone course. Students should be able to make better academic choices if they have a focus and basic understanding about what they need to study to reach their personal and professional goals.
