MAKING THE MOST OF A COLLEGE FAIR

Fall is the time when many schools and organizations, including NACAC, sponsor college fairs.  Here at Columbus East, we will be hosting our Annual Columbus Area College Fair.  The College Fair is a great opportunity for students and parents to attend and learn more about educational and career opportunities after high school.  Admission and financial aid information and meeting a college representative will be available.  The college fair is great opportunity to get more information about colleges of interest and to ask questions of college representatives.  But, getting the most from a college fair takes a little planning ahead.

Do your homework before you attend.  Have a list of institutions you are interested in speaking with beforehand.  Write down questions you may have and bring the list with you.  Use the internet or visit your school’s guidance department for information before the fair.   Bring your parents.  Your parents will be a big part of your college life.

Plan on picking up literature that colleges hand out.  Remember, you will be talking with a person, someone who has real experience at the college level and detailed information at his/her fingertips.  Bring writing materials in order to take notes regarding questions you may have or information you will receive.

Make a good impression. If you are truly interested in a certain college, ask for a business card from the rep.  Then, you will be able to write this person directly for further questions or as a contact person in the future.

HAVE FUN!  College shopping should be an exciting time.  Explore many colleges before making your final decision.
