A panorama of Mr. Hudelson's classroom
I am a native Hoosier.  I was born and raised in Paoli, IN, and moved to Bloomington for college in 2011.  In May 2015, I graduated from IU Bloomington with a degree in Language Arts/English education.  During my student teaching experience, I worked with Mindy Summers and Team Adventure at Central Middle School.  After I graduated from IU, I did a long-term sub job at Columbus North High School.

Since I started teaching at Northside, I have been blessed with multiple opportunities to advance my career.  I have spoken on several panels at IU, presented at multiple professional education conferences at BCSC and around the state, and was interviewed for the UDL in 15 Minutes podcast.  Over the last two years, I've participated on two state committees to help with the development of the Literacy Framework and reviewing ILEARN content and fairness.  Additionally, I attend multiple professional development conferences every year.  In July 2018, I attended the National Down Syndrome Conference in Dallas, TX.  I currently serve on the CIC committee at Northside, and I have served on the PBIS committee in the past.

There are six teaching teams at Northside (three 7th grade, and three 8th grade).  I teach on the Navigator team.  Students that are on the Navigator team will all share the same teachers for core content classes (Science, Literature, Math/Pre-Algebra, Writing & Literacy, and Social Studies).  Students will also have a Resource class with one of us, and will take two exploratory/related arts classes.

7th grade English at Northside is split into two different classes: Writing & Literacy and Literature.  While we both cover all of the English standards in both classes, in Writing & Literacy, we will focus more on writing skills.  Over the course of the year, we will be writing four different essays (approximately one a quarter):

    1) Compare/Contrast Essay

    2) Argument Essay

    3) Research Paper

    4) Narrative Essay (short story)

We will be covering other topics as well, but almost everything that we do will be aimed at one of these four papers (depending on the 9 weeks).

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
