On April 4, 1938, Mildred A. Murray petitioned the National Thespian Honor Dramatic Society for High Schools for a charter.  On April 16, 1938, the petition was granted and Columbus High School was selected as the 57th chapter in the nation.

 

Today the society is called the International Thespian Society, and there are more than 5000 chapters worldwide.

 

The International Thespian Society is dedicated to promoting high school theatre, in all of its forms.  Membership to the society is by invitation only.  In order to be eligible for membership, a candidate must accumulate points by participating in high school theatre.  After obtaining the required points and securing the endorsement of the troupe sponsor, the candidate is inducted into the society.

 

Troupe #57 of the Thespian Society works to actively promote not only the North Drama program, but their own.  Currently they produce two shows a year, meaning that the student members are responsible for show selection, directing, casting, rehearsing, promoting, accomplishing all tech requirements, and making sure each production is fiscally solvent.  They must master every area of production.

 

They also are dedicated to the betterment of our community.  In the past they have created theatre events to benefit Volunteers in Medicine and Turning Point in Columbus.  They also participate in the nationwide Trick-or-Treat So Kids Can Eat campaign organized by the International Thespian Society.
